The Blue Cruise Programme 2025 is something to be proud of. Lots of interesting cruises in interesting areas and to interesting places. Most of the cruises are perfect for combining. There is a 30% discount on the regular cruise price for the second and subsequent weeks of consecutive cruises.
Start - Finish: | Harwich - Harwich |
Sea area: | North sea, River Orwell, Thames Estuary |
Sailing distance: | According to daily planning |
Duration: | 6 days |
Yacht / Skipper: | SY Blue Cruise / Johanna Rieder |
Price: | 410,00€ |
This week we start the 2025 season with the opportunity to try out the Blue Cruise with a brand new rig and new sails. We want to sail the sailing characteristics of the Blue Cruise with her new rig for another week. We could also consider a trip to London, which is only a day's sail away. An exciting area with strong currents, high tidal differences, many sandbanks and lots of commercial shipping at a challenging time of year, navigationally demanding. You can learn and practise a lot. At the end of the week, you are sure to take away many new insights that are not found in textbooks or taught in sailing courses. Please note: The entry requirements for England will change in spring 2025 and an ETA (electronic travel authorisation) will be required, which you can apply for online before your trip.

Sailing, relaxing, sightseeing - that could be the motto for this second week of the crossing. Amsterdam will be the first port of call. From there, there are two options to Harlingen, via the North Sea and the Waddenzee or through the Maker and IJsselmeer. My suggestion is to make this decision spontaneously. As far as the weather is concerned, in my role as skipper I would like to have a say in the route, desire and curiosity are entirely up to you, I really enjoy sailing both routes. At the end of the week, we will moor in Harlingen and look back on many wonderful experiences. This cruise combines with the cruise of the previous week as well as with the following cruise.

This is the third and final leg of our crossing trip. On the very first day we sail through the Wadden Sea to Vlieland, a tranquil island in the Wadden Sea. On the following day we have the long haul to Borkum, just under 70nm to sail. We might even do it as a night trip, leaving Vlieland in the evening and arriving in Borkum in the morning. We should then spend a day exploring the beauty of Borkum before setting sail for Heligoland. We are recommended to sail at night, about 80nm lie ahead of us. The North Sea sky is beautiful at night with a clear sky. Heligoland is well worth the trip, the island is a wonderful place to slow down. Sailing slows you down noticeably, but the island of Heligoland goes one better. The maximum speed is 10 km/h, which corresponds to around five knots. By comparison, the Blue Cruise can do twice that in good wind conditions. The bird and animal life is also worth seeing on Heligoland and the neighbouring island, you can easily fill a day here. We leave this island on Friday morning at the latest and set course for Wilhelmshaven, the destination of our journey.
Start - Finish: | Wilhelmshaven |
Sea area: | Jade |
Sailing distance: | n.a. |
Duration: | 1 day |
Yacht / Skipper: | SY Blue Cruise / Johanna Rieder |
Price: | 160,00€ |
The large harbour of Wilhelmshaven is ideal for this training. Each manoeuvre is discussed in theory and practised in practice. The Blue Cruise is a sailing yacht that needs to be manoeuvred with a lot of feeling, both under sail and under engine. And we will practise the latter extensively in this training course, ‘from practice, for practice’. The contents of this intensive training day are
# Preparing a yacht
# Seaworthy
# Safety on board
# Rescue equipment
# Mooring and casting off under engine
# Turning ‘on the plate’
# Person overboard
The number of participants is limited to 4 people.
Training takes place from 09-12:30 and 13:30-17h. Questions are not only allowed, but expressly encouraged. Bring your own knowledge and experience to enrich the training at any time. Drinks, snacks, fruit and knowledge transfer are provided by the skipper.

* You sail in the German Bight
* visit Heligoland
* and practise navigation, tidal knowledge, sailing and lock manoeuvres
On this trip you will have the opportunity to put into practice everything you have learnt in theory: Mooring and casting off, locks, navigation, KVR and much more. But there will also be plenty of time to relax and unwind. We start with the obligatory safety briefing and provisioning on the day of arrival. Over dinner together, we talk about this and that, but also about the cruise ahead of us. This takes us via Helgoland and Cuxhaven to Brunsbüttel in the Kiel Canal and on to Kiel. But first things first: On Sunday morning we lock through the large sea lock into the Jade. Until high tide at around 1 p.m., we have to sail against the decreasing current before we are literally washed into the German Bight as the water recedes. The day's destination is Helgoland, where we want to moor safely in the evening. Traditionally, the Blue Cruise stays for one day, giving us the opportunity to explore this island and its neighbour, the Düne. On the third day, we leave Heligoland for Cuxhaven in the Elbe estuary. From there we continue the next day to Brunsbüttel and Giselau in the Kiel Canal. A magical place to spend the night. On the following day, a visit to Rendsburg is on the programme, a small town with a fantastic railway bridge and a floating ferry that crosses the canal suspended from this bridge. The last day takes us through the lock at Holtenau, out of the Kiel Canal and into the Kiel Fjord to Kiel, our destination for the week.
Start - Finish: | Kiel - Flensburg |

This week we have two options: On the one hand, we can stroll along the coast via Eckernförde, Schleimünde and Sonderborg, including Flensburg; on the other hand, we can focus on more sailing and head for Bagenkop in Denmark as our first harbour. Of course, the weather will have a say, but we are hoping for good winds at this time of year. In any case, you will have a great week of sailing combined with many beautiful harbours and all the manoeuvres that go with it. On the day of arrival there will be the obligatory safety briefing and before we cast off for the first time a detailed introduction to the handling of the Blue Cruise. Over the course of the week, the manoeuvres will become second nature to you. At the end of the week, in Flensburg, we will be able to look back on a wonderful sailing experience.
Tip: This trip combines wonderfully with the previous and subsequent trips. Book two or more consecutive weeks and receive a 30% discount on the cruise price from the second week onwards.

Relaxing, cosy sailing is combined with the Danish South Sea, which you will sail with me for a week. We start in Flensburg and our first destination is Sonderborg. From then on we are completely free to choose our route, the main thing is that we are back in Flensburg at the end of the week. One possible route would be Flensburg - Sonderborg - Söby - Faborg - Assen - Dyvig - Flensburg. In Söby, it's worth taking a trip to Ärösköping, a picturesque island village. Buses on Ärö run free of charge. Faborg and Assen are pretty little towns and Dyvig, at the entrance to Als Fjord, is a lovely bay for anchoring for the night. But other routes are also possible. Unfortunately, we couldn't sail to all the Danish islands, harbours, bays and fjords in one week.

A wonderful sailing trip with plenty of distance awaits you this week. First we sail from Kalmar to the northern tip of the island of Öland. From there we continue to Visby on Gotland. This medieval town is a feast for the eyes. It is full of history and stories. We stay in Visby for a day and then make our way back. Depending on the wind and weather, we can make one or two stops along the way.

We have plenty of sailing distance this week. We sail from Kalkar to Malmö, following the Swedish coast for approx. 220 nm and stopping wherever we like: Karlskrona, Sölvesborg, Ahus, Simrisham, Trelleborg, Ystad, to name just a few of the many possibilities.
Tip: Take a week's holiday in Malmö and then sail on to Gothenburg on the Blue Cruise. In Malmö you can stay overnight on the Blue Cruise (60€/night).

A cruise along the Swedish west coast awaits you this week. We start in Malmö and sail northwards. If we want, we can make a detour to Copenhagen or Helsingör. On our route there are many small towns worth seeing such as Helsingborg or Halmstadt on the river Nissan with its industrial harbour Sibiria. The towns of Falkenberg and Varberg with their fortresses are silent witnesses to a warlike era between Denmark and Sweden. Shortly before Gothenburg, the impressive island world of the western Swedish archipelago begins with its small harbours and sheltered anchor bays. On the last day we will sail a little way up the river Gota alf to moor in the centre of Gothenburg, our destination for the week. Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden after Stockholm and celebrated its 400th birthday last year.

After leaving Gothenburg, we sail northwards along the coast towards Oslo. There are many harbours and anchorages between the skerries along the Swedish west coast. It is also an exciting manoeuvre to moor a 50-foot yacht at an archipelago. In the Skagerrak, the water gets much deeper and the waves more powerful. You notice the free access to the North Sea. As soon as we reach the Oslofjord, the water becomes calmer again: after a few nautical miles up the fjord, you feel like you're on Lake Garda, surrounded by high mountains. Almost at the end of this fjord lies Oslo, the end of this exciting week of sailing.

This week we are sailing southwards from Oslo to Gothenburg. I could simply refer to last week in the text, because roughly speaking it's the same route as Gothenburg - Oslo, but Sweden's west coast has so much variety to offer that you can easily spend months here without sailing a spot twice. Every sailing trip on the Blue Cruise is individually beautiful.
Before we set sail from Oslo, we have the obligatory safety briefing, buy provisions and familiarise ourselves with the Blue Cruise. We follow the Swedish west coast southwards and spend the night in the archipelago. On our route lies Marstrand, the Saint Tropez of Sweden. The log will show approx. 160 nm at the end of this week when we arrive in Gothenburg.

On the itinerary this week is the crossing of the Skagerrak, a visit to the island of Läsö and the Limfjord. We leave Gothenburg and our first destination is Marstrand, the Saint Tropez of Sweden, from where we start the crossing of the Skagerrak creek Skagen. Skagen is an interesting place at the northern tip of Denmark, e.g. railway tracks run through a garden café. After Skagen we sail to the island of Läsö. From there we continue to Hals on the east side of the Limfjord. Careful navigation is required, because it becomes flat. We reach Aalborg, our destination, after about 15 kilometres of fjord sailing.

Start - Finish: | Aalborg (Limfjord) - Esbjerg |

This week we are continuing our journey through the Limfjord into the North Sea and want to sail to Esbjerg. Esbjerg was founded after the German-Danish War of 1866/67, when Denmark lost many territories to Germany and needed a strategically favourable North Sea port. Much here is reminiscent of Wilhelmshaven, which was founded around the same time for the same reason by Kaiser Wilhelm II. But back to the here and now. We leave the picturesque Limfjord at its western exit near Thyboren and sail out into the North Sea. We follow the Danish coast southwards to Esbjerg, the destination of our sailing week. We moor for the night in the few sleepy-looking fishing harbours.

Römö and Helgoland are on the itinerary for this week of sailing in the North Sea. On Römö, the southernmost Danish island in the North Sea, holidays and tranquillity can be felt everywhere. Many Germans are here, for whom Sylt is probably too ‘schiki-miki’. List can be reached quickly by ferry from Havneby. iWe stay in Havneby with the Blue Cruise, as there is no berth for 50-foot yachts in List on Sylt. Our next destination is the island of Helgoland. We are hoping for a good wind from the west, north or east to cover the 60 nm distance. Helgoland is always worth a mooring. The island is a wonderful place to slow down. The island is free of cars and bicycles and the maximum speed is 10 km/h. In comparison, the Blue Cruise can sail twice as fast. The Blue Cruise also uses the stopover to drink its fill, and we can use the stopover to stock up on duty-free goods. A tour of the island and the neighbouring island, the dune, is definitely worthwhile. There are plenty of gannets, guillemots, seals and other sea creatures to see. The last stage of the day takes us to Cuxhaven. Our full attention is required once again in this busy area.

If you like the German North Sea islands, this is the right trip for you. We are sailing to Helgoland and Norderney this week. It is a challenging trip, tides, currents, weather and wind determine departure and arrival times, commercial shipping traffic must be constantly monitored and it is important to stay in the fairway when approaching. All in all, it's a trip where you can practise a lot. But relaxation should not be neglected either. When the Blue Cruise sails in the German Bight, Heligoland is a ‘must’. The journey continues to Norderney, which is said to have overtaken Sylt. In the harbour of Ney, however, things are still quite leisurely. The last leg is to Wilhelmshaven in the Jade Bay, where we will moor in the large harbour. We will end this wonderful week of sailing with a regular dinner together in the restaurant of the Germania Hochsee Yacht Club.

This week we are sailing from Emden to Harlingen in Holland. Our trip planning is determined by tides, currents, wind and weather. In the Dollart and around Borkum we have to keep an eye on commercial shipping. From Borkum we follow the Frisian North Sea coast and its offshore islands westwards. We pass Rottumerplaat, Schiermonnigkoog, Ameland and Terschelling to sail through the sea inlet between Terschelling and Vlieland into the Wadden Sea. We have the choice of which of the two islands we sail to first. On the last day we sail to Harlingen on the mainland. Harlingen was the seat of the Dutch Admiralty for a long time. Back then, you had to be familiar with the area to call at this harbour safely. Many an English or Spanish frigate had to be abandoned after running aground. We use modern means of navigation and up-to-date nautical charts to ensure that we arrive safely.
